I was talking with a fellow the other day and he was sharing his pastor's message. His pastor challenged the crowd to be open to receiving and loving all people. Sounds good so far... His church helps with several outreach projects each month, free food, blood drives and more. The people have been ministering to the needy in a great way, but today he shared they should welcome them into the congregation. Oops. Some folks would rather minister to the needy because it helps them not feel guilty, but to have them sit next to me at church or have their children be with my children can be pushing it too far. My friend didn't express these as his views yet they exist in his church.
My friend has been a bible reader for decades and recently confessed he had trouble understanding much of what he read. Sharing his concern with his wife she went out and bought some new bibles for the entire family. After reading his new bible he said, the scripture has come to life, I can now understand many things I didn't before. His frustration grew reading his old bible but with one in his language he has a new excitement for reading the word. He has since wondered why so many folks don't get them a copy of the Bible they can understand.
