Matt 16:24-26 Saw this on Lee McDermet's site today...

Matt 16:24-26 Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. "Anyone who intends to come to me has to let me lead. You're not in the driver's seat; I am. Don't run from suffering: embrace it. Follow me and I'll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?"

Gods is moving us to a discomfort so that we will find comfort in Him. Yeah it hurts but I am curious to know what great thing He has for us next.

1 Corinthians 13:7

The heart of God loves a preserving worshipper who, though overwhelmed by many troubles, is overwhelmed even more by the beauty of God.

1 Corinthians 13:7 (The Message)

3-7If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love. Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love doesn't strut, Doesn't have a swelled head, Doesn't force itself on others, Isn't always "me first," Doesn't fly off the handle, Doesn't keep score of the sins of others, Doesn't revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.

Mark Beeson reminds us of The Spiritually Self-Seeking Church

Converting to Who? By Mark Waltz
Yesterday at our weekly all-staff gathering, our senior pastor, Mark Beeson, reminded us of a critical objective related to helping people experience transformed lives."We are not helping people convert to our culture; we are helping them convert to Christ."If we aren't crystal clear about that, people will be drawn to, and make commitments to our culture. People want to belong to a movement bigger than they are. People want to be in on what is exciting and adventurous. People want to be part of something excellent and significant. But, if we aren't clear about calling people to be disciples, sold-out followers of Jesus Christ, they will continue to show up, cheer and maybe even tell their friends, but their lives may not reflect a personal, missional buy-in to the agenda of the kingdom of God and the grace of Jesus Christ.People matter too much to miss this critical distinction. God's kingdom agenda matters too much to allow this confusion.
Thanks for the reminder, Mark.

The Spiritually Self-Seeking Church
. . . till we all come . . . to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ . . . —Ephesians 4:13
Reconciliation means the restoring of the relationship between the entire human race and God, putting it back to what God designed it to be. This is what Jesus Christ did in redemption. The church ceases to be spiritual when it becomes self-seeking, only interested in the development of its own organization. The reconciliation of the human race according to His plan means realizing Him not only in our lives individually, but also in our lives collectively. Jesus Christ sent apostles and teachers for this very purpose— that the corporate Person of Christ and His church, made up of many members, might be brought into being and made known. We are not here to develop a spiritual life of our own, or to enjoy a quiet spiritual retreat. We are here to have the full realization of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of building His body.
Am I building up the body of Christ, or am I only concerned about my own personal development? The essential thing is my personal relationship with Jesus Christ— ". . . that I may know Him. . ." ( Philippians 3:10 ). To fulfill God’s perfect design for me requires my total surrender— complete abandonment of myself to Him. Whenever I only want things for myself, the relationship is distorted. And I will suffer great humiliation once I come to acknowledge and understand that I have not really been concerned about realizing Jesus Christ Himself, but only concerned with knowing what He has done for me.
My goal is God Himself, not joy nor peace, Nor even blessing, but Himself, my God.
Am I measuring my life by this standard or by something less?

Craig Groeschel speaks encouraging words...

He is an article by Craig Groeschel from LifeChurch.tv talked about the challenges of innovation. He suggested:

Limited Resources + Increasing Passion = Exponential Innovation

He then went on to talk about four characteristics of innovative leaders.

They heal the sick. Not just physical healing. “In order to reach those that no one else is reaching, we will have to do things that no one else is doing.” We have to be driven to bring people to Jesus. We have to be passionate about that. “When is the last time you had a non-believer in your home?” We need to lead our people to love those that don’t know Christ. They need to be real people with names that people know. That type of ministry looks very different than the typical church ministry looks today. “Who is God calling you to reach that no around you is reaching?”

They break rules. We don’t break away from the Truth of Jesus Christ. We need to do less “preaching” and more “listening.” Jesus healed people on the Sabbath. Martin Luther put the Bible in the hands of the common man. John Wesley preached outside the church walls. Bill Hybels combined the passion of parachurch with the power of the local church. “We have to care more about reaching people than following man’s rules.” Sometimes you have to stop watching what others are doing to hear from God. It’s your turn. Break some rules. “What is God calling you to try that hasn’t been done before?”

They offend Pharisees. “When you do something new, the Pharisees will attack you like you never dreamed possible.” The things that are accepted today in the Church world, were hated ten years ago. When they do criticize, you must handle their criticism with grace. A lot of you are angry, and you have to get over your anger. Don’t shoot back. “What new thing is God calling you to create that will be hated today and embraced tomorrow?”

They redefine success. John 3:30. Less of me and more of God. We have to do that…in everything we do.

Good to be back home. Panama City Beach will never be the same. We had a good time jumping the waves, swimming in the pool and eatting.
