The Undetected Sacredness of Circumstances

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God . . . —Romans 8:28

The circumstances of a saint’s life are ordained of God. In the life of a saint there is no such thing as chance. God by His providence brings you into circumstances that you can’t understand at all, but the Spirit of God understands. God brings you to places, among people, and into certain conditions to accomplish a definite purpose through the intercession of the Spirit in you. Never put yourself in front of your circumstances and say, "I’m going to be my own providence here; I will watch this closely, or protect myself from that." All your circumstances are in the hand of God, and therefore you don’t ever have to think they are unnatural or unique. Your part in intercessory prayer is not to agonize over how to intercede, but to use the everyday circumstances and people God puts around you by His providence to bring them before His throne, and to allow the Spirit in you the opportunity to intercede for them. In this way God is going to touch the whole world with His saints.
Am I making the Holy Spirit’s work difficult by being vague and unsure, or by trying to do His work for Him? I must do the human side of intercession— utilizing the circumstances in which I find myself and the people who surround me. I must keep my conscious life as a sacred place for the Holy Spirit. Then as I lift different ones to God through prayer, the Holy Spirit intercedes for them.
Your intercessions can never be mine, and my intercessions can never be yours, ". . . but the Spirit Himself makes intercession" in each of our lives (
Romans 8:26 ). And without that intercession, the lives of others would be left in poverty and in ruin.

Go Big!

This is a great book you can download in pdf form. Following is a review from Tony McCollum, pastor at Mill Creek Community Church, Buford, GA. I just finished reading this book and all I can say is WOW! (I posted this on my blog but I wanted to post it here too.) I first came across Bil Cornelius (Yes, he spells his first name with one "L") at the ChurchPlanters.com conference last year. He taught a break out session on creative service planning that was absolutely filled with great thoughts and ideas. Truthfully, the session was more about how to lead and grow your church than planning a service and I took a lot of notes. I also took note of Bil himself. He seemed down to earth and it was readily apparent that he just wanted to help other church planters. He had his wife with him that day too and you could tell that they have a wonderful relationship. I was truly impressed with this dude. I simply can't stress how great this little book (129 pages) is. I started highlighting important stuff in yellow in chapter one and now almost my entire copy is dripping yellow ink. The book is filled with so much wisdom and direction. The pull quotes alone would be worth the price of the book IMHO. I like practical books and this one is just that. It's written by two men that have obviously seen it all, or at least most of it, and they shoot straight throughout the book. It's like some incredible church growth and leadership conference in a book format. The Bill's don't pull any punches. I found myself convicted and challenged. I felt like those two guys "lovingly" kicked me in the seat of my pants. They inspired me and helped increase my vision for what my church could and should be. Again, two thumbs up for this book. I wish every pastor I knew had a copy. In the last chapter they mention that they plan to release a series of books like this one. They say that the next three are going to cover small groups, children's ministry and worship. I can't wait. I want to pre-order mind today!

Please give it a read.

Defining Our Vision (pt. 2) June 2006 Bulletin

Defining Our Vision (pt. 2)

The Bible tells us “where there is no vision, the people perish (KJV)”. Vision is critical to any group of believers following after God’s plan for their lives. Andy Stanley defines vision as “the ability to see what can be”. Fellowship Church has been given an incredible vision that will require each and every member to join in the effort. To date there are 40K people who live in Habersham County and less than 10% of that group is faithful followers of Jesus Christ. Our vision is to reach the 90% who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. In this three part series we are looking at what our mission statement means. Last week we looked at the word creative, today we will consider the word different.

Different –

God expressed His creative nature by making each person different. Uniqueness is the thing that makes life interesting. What if every person on the face of the earth was like me? Think that’s funny, well what if every person on the face of the earth were just like you? Being different is healthy and productive. We all have different body shapes, noses, ears, voices, and many other attributes that were given by God as special feature that distinctly make us who we are.

Like people, churches should be different as well. Not all people like the same worship styles, preaching styles and ministry styles. Unfortunately many of us have been raised in churches that taught certain rituals and procedures as Biblically mandated, however most of what we know as normal in church is man-made. At Fellowship Church we desire to become what God wants us to be and that means being different.

Dictionary.com define different as: distinct, separate, unusual, and dissimilar. At Fellowship we seek to be unlike any other church in Habersham County. Why be like all the rest when we can be the best! Not to say other churches aren’t good or important, but we seek to reach out to people who would not be touched by church normal.

Sometimes being different will cause others to be suspicious and cautious, but we should never shy away from expressing our difference as long as we honor Jesus Christ and His Word. So never be amazed when Fellowship is different and creative, we are only seeking to be all that God wants us to be. We truly desire to be distinct, separate, unusual and dissimilar.

Defining Our Vision (pt. 1) June 2006 Bulletin

Defining Our Vision (pt. 1)

Fellowship Church was birthed out of a God-given Vision to reach Habersham County with the Good News of Jesus Christ. At the very core of this vision was the desire not to duplicate what was already in existence. Habersham County has over 100 churches of varying denominations and form. We sought to be something unique and new. Our Mission Statement includes three words that need clarification and understanding for each member to better know where we will go as a church in the future.

Creative –

God created the world. Careful attention to the planet, universe and man will mandate God’s creativity. Think about the many species of plants, animals and bugs and then look at the diversity of man. Sometimes it is down right comical when you consider all that God made.

Man was created in the image of God, meaning we have the attributes and character traits of God. We are like Him! If this were true then wouldn’t it also be true that we are creative by nature. Watch as a child takes a simple stick and uses it to entertain their day or consider the wonders man has created using their God given talents. God gave each of us a creative mind. The trouble is most of us have never attempted to use this creativity as God intended. Consider all the inventions of man, what would the world be like if those inventors had never tried?

Fellowship Church seeks to be creative in our presentation of Jesus Christ. This means there are no limits outside the bond of Scripture that we will not use to tell others about God’s love for them. Drama, crafts, the arts, music, praise, video and technology; all of these are tools in the hands of man to life up the name of Jesus. Our vision includes being as creative as possible, teaching our members how to find their creative talents and presenting them to God as an incredible offering of worship.

When you read our Mission Statement remember we seek to be creative in all we do for the Kingdom work of God.
